About

The Company
I founded Grisham Field & Feather in January 2026 as a Texas limited liability company. Its principal office is in Lubbock, Texas, and its field office is in Black Oak, Arkansas. The Company prioritizes six types of work: publishing; applied research and consulting in habitat management and land stewardship; the preservation and interpretation of historical, genealogical, and ecological knowledge; analytical and data services for land stewardship and land-use planning; grant development and writing; and education and outreach for landowners, communities, and organizations.
What the Company stands for
The work is grounded in land stewardship, accuracy, and respect for truth in representation. I apply scientific understanding and creative communication to the betterment of land, community, and culture, without institutional dependence. Every claim made under the Company’s name is accountable to the evidence behind it, and everything it produces, from a stewardship plan to a book, is meant to be useful, truthful, and built to last.
Dr. Blake A. Grisham, Managing Member and Chief Executive Officer
I am a wildlife biologist and a writer. I have a bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology from Arkansas State University, a master’s in wildlife management from Louisiana State University, and a doctorate from Texas Tech University, where I served twelve years on the wildlife faculty, most recently as Associate Professor of Wildlife Management.
My topical expertise is the habitat ecology and population demography of wildlife. My taxonomic expertise is birds, specifically Lesser Prairie-Chickens, Sandhill Cranes, Wild Turkeys, quail, Purple Martins, and waterfowl. I have also studied invasive axis deer, white-tailed deer, cattle, small mammals, reptiles, fish, and wildlife disease. My work has produced 40 refereed journal publications and two book chapters; since 2013 I have received more than $7 million in grants and gifts. I was the primary advisor for 17 graduate students; supervised one post-master’s research associate and four postdoctoral researchers, one of whom stayed on as a research faculty member; and served as a science advisor on the Lesser Prairie-Chicken to state and federal agencies. The Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society named me its Educator of the Year in 2018 and elected me its president for 2023 to 2024. In 2025 I left academia to start this Company and its imprint.

Black Oak, Arkansas
My Company’s field office is at Black Oak, home to my family’s farm, Grisham Farms. My first book, Clouds: A Family, a Farm, and a Cotton Farmer’s Poetic License, is a natural history of that family and the Delta that raised it.

Grisham Field Press
I publish through the Company’s imprint, Grisham Field Press. The Field Press produces literary, scientific, educational, historical, and naturalist work in print, digital, and audio formats. Its first title, Clouds, appeared in September 2026, and Operation Triple Crown is in development, coming summer 2027. Writers whose work fits the Press are welcome to ask about publishing with it: see For writers on The Field Press page.
